2022 Domaine Bois de Boursan Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Rhone, France (750ml)

WINEMAKER’S NOTES:

The classic red of the domaine accounts for approximately 85% of the annual production of the estate. It is composed of 65% Grenache Noir, 15% Syrah, 15% Mourvdre and a balance of other traditional varieties. The grapes are not destemmed, the cuvaison lasts for three weeks and the levage encompasses an additional 18 months in traditional foudre wood vats before the wine is bottled unfiltered. The fruit is perfectly in balance with the textural elements, showing typical dark fruit notes with discernible energy and liveliness. Its slighty sauvage character and firm structural backbone is leavened by its exceptional breed.

TASTING NOTES:

Not yet bottled, the 2022 Chteauneuf Du Pape is liquid Provence in a bottle, offering a massive nose of mulled red and black cherries, peppery garrigue, leather, and smoked meat-like aromas and flavors. With medium to full-bodied richness on the palate, it has solid overall balance, a meaty, mouth-filling texture, and enough tannins to warrant short-term cellaring. The blend is 70% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvdre, and the rest a mix of varieties, and this cuve will spend two years in foudre before bottling.
