Producer Information
J. Lohr Vineyards and Winery is one of the largest wineries in the United States, producing more than a million cases of wine per year. Located in the Paso Robles AVA (American Viticultural Area), it boasts a large portfolio of wines from multiple AVAs within California. The company was founded by Jerry Lohr, who first began planting vineyards in 1972 the Arroyo Seco AVA in Monterey County, just south of San Francisco. In 1974 he opened the winery, and by 1979 J. Lohr wines were being distributed nationally. Expansion was relatively fast and J. Lohr planted new vineyards planted in Paso Robles in 1986. Today J. Lohr farms over 4000 acres (1600ha) of estate vineyards in Arroyo Seco, the Santa Lucia Highlands, Paso Robles and St Helena in the Napa Valley. It was honored with the 2020 Green Medal Leader award by principal Californian wine industry bodies for its commitment, since foundation, to sustainability. Despite its size, J. Lohr is still a family-owned and operated winery. Jerry Lohr has now been joined in the business by his three children Steve, Cynthia and Lawrence.
