Produced from the blocks that harness both power and freshness, this wines chiseled structure and fruit density showcase why the Calera clone is such a perfect fit here and the predominant clone in the blend. The Estate Reserve translates the year and site with great transparency: deep and darkly colored while intensely concentrated and vibrant, this bottling captures the essence of Platt. For the Reserve bottling, we select lots that are pure, focused and with the longest ageing potential.

• Like the Reserve Chardonnay, this represents a step up in terms of savoury complexity and sophistication but interestingly, despite the Reserve designation, none of that is overtly reliant on oak. Playing much less on fruit and more on earthy, savoury and textural qualities, this takes time to unfurl but, as it does so, shows spice and energy to match its density and layered fruit. The dominant fruit tone is a dark, dusky cherry note but its all fruit derived as this is entirely de-stemmed. Ripe and luxurious with lovely length. 97/100 Matthew Hemming MW
• The 2023 Pinot Noir Estate Reserve stains the palate with an exotic mlange of blood orange, pomegranate, spice, new leather and cedar. A Pinot of tremendous density and sheer power, the 2023 Platt will need to shed some of its baby fat. • Medium to deep ruby-purple colored, the 2023 Pinot Noir Estate Reserve slowly emerges with a graceful perfume of red roses, red currant jelly, fresh cranberries, and crushed rocks, followed by earthy nuances of moss and forest floor. The medium-bodied palate reveals jaw-dropping elegance and grace, featuring bright red berry and floral layers with firm yet silky tannins and a refreshing backbone, finishing long and earthy. Nestled within the acclaimed West Sonoma Coast AVA, Platt Vineyard represents a compelling synthesis of visionary legacy and contemporary ambition. Originally established in 2003 by Lewis E. Platt, the vineyards meticulously planted vines quickly earned a reputation as a source of superlative fruit for many of California’s top winemakers. Its 2022 acquisition by AXA Millesimes – the group behind prestigious estates including Chateau Pichon Baron and Chateau Suduiraut – marks the estate’s exciting transition to producing its own wines. The winemaking is steered by the acclaimed consulting winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown. Brown is a vintner recognized for a historic record of perfect critical scores, being the youngest American to earn two 100-point ratings from Robert Parker and the only winemaker to achieve the same feat with Wine Spectator. It was, in fact, the exceptional quality of the wines he made from Platt’s grapes that gave AXA the confidence to purchase the vineyard. The character of the vineyard is fundamentally shaped by its dramatic coastal terroir just 10 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean and its fine Goldridge soils. The estate focuses on sustainable farming across approximately 11 hectares of Pinot Noir and just under 6 hectares of Chardonnay. Guided by a philosophy of minimal intervention to express the unique site, the resulting wines are celebrated for their vibrant energy, tension, and crystalline purity.
