The 2020 vintage of Groths flagship Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced primarily from the familys estate vineyards in Oakville, one of Napa Valleys most iconic sub-appellations for structured yet plush Cabernet. The fruitpredominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with small percentages of Merlot and Petit Verdotwas hand-harvested and fermented in stainless steel, followed by 20 months of aging in French oak barrels (approximately 60% new).
Despite the challenges of the 2020 vintage, Groths meticulous vineyard management and selective harvesting delivered fruit of excellent concentration and purity. The wine shows classic Napa richness with refined structure: dark fruits, graphite, and cedar, supported by ripe yet well-integrated tannins. Its half-bottle (375 mL) format makes it ideal for a weeknight pairingthink grilled steak, lamb chops, or aged goudaor for sampling now while laying down full bottles for aging.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Founded in 1982, Groth Vineyards & Winery is a family-owned estate in the heart of Oakville, Napa Valley, and a pioneer of single-appellation Cabernet Sauvignon. The Groth family was among the first to commit fully to estate-grown Oakville wines, helping to define the regions reputation for world-class Cabernet. The winery made history with its 1985 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, the first American wine to receive a perfect 100-point score from Robert Parker.
Groth farms its estate using sustainable viticulture, certified through Napa Green for both vineyard and winery operations. While not organic or biodynamic, the team employs practices like composting, deficit irrigation, and cover cropping to foster vine health and soil vitality. The winemaking philosophy centers on transparency, balance, and site expressionresulting in wines that are richly textured, structured for aging, and unmistakably Napa in character.
