The third edition of Angostura’s Cask Collection No.1 is a 22-year-old blend of rums, matured in first-fill oloroso sherry casks. The palate is smooth and complex, offering notes of roasted nuts, rich oat, dried fruits and sweet sherry.

How life changes. Angostura Bitters were originally made by a surgeon, Dr Siegert, for his medical practice back in 1824. I doubt he had any inkling that the business would go on to change so radically- not only for the obvious reasons, but also the business would move from Venezuela to Trinidad some 50 years later. They were more renowned for their aromatic bitters until roughly 1940 when a conscious decision to increase their expertise in and production of Rum was taken.
