Brouilly ‘Procrastinateur’, Baptiste Bertrand 2020 (Beaujolais, France)

100% Gamay. ‘Procrastinateur’ is one of Baptiste Bertrand’s latest cuves, produced in the heart of the Brouilly AOP. Comes from a small single parcel of .5ha, planted in 1950 on stony, alluvial soils at 220msl. Semi-carbonic cold fermentation with native yeasts and whole clusters in concrete tanks. (Grapes are refrigerated and left to macerate in concrete tanks.) Aged in neutral oak barrels (7-10 years old) for a few months afterward. Unfined, unfiltered, no SO2 added. Bertrand is the first producer in the small commune of Charentay to be certified organic, and his wines are produced using simple traditional equipment — like a tiny, vintage basket press — and minimal intervention.
