Technically an independent distillery, Rmy Cointreau is the majority shareholder of the facility that controls the brand, yet they do a very good job of not interfering with the special kind of Caribbean magic that’s wielded over there magic that whips the sugarcane, sea breeze, coral-filtered water, and tropical climate into concoctions that make any Rumhead salivate.
The Mount Gay Port Cask Expression Master Blender Collection #3 is a blended Rum that channels that magic perfectly. It’s a blend of 5-year-old column-still Rums that have spent half a decade in Tawny Port casks with double-distilled copper-pot still rums that have spent 14 years in American Whiskey barrels, before being finished in Tawny Port barrels for another year. It’s a showcase of what Master BlenderTrudiann Branker does best pushing boundaries and experimenting until something utterly delicious is created. The Tawny Port casks bring almond and red fruit notes to the table, adding to the complexity of the juice.
