In 2013, founder Derek Benham saw potential in northern California’s cool, temperate climateperfect for aging whiskey slowly and evenly. Two years later, he broke distillery ground in the small town of Graton, nestled in the Russian River Valley and surrounded by redwoods. With Master Distiller Jeff Duckhorn at the helm, the distillery team began crafting their first barrels while also traveling cross-country to source mature whiskey to complement their own distillate.
The Emerald Giant, named after the fastest growing Redwood in the world, is a fan favourite. The team started with a mash-bill of 95% premium rye and aged it for over 3 years in new charred oak barrels.
