Winemaker Notes

Sutter Home White Merlot isnt a white wine at all, but a dark blush wine thats made from red Merlot grapes. To achieve its bright, light red color, winemakers divide the grapes: one lot goes directly to press without crushing to minimize the extraction of color from the grape skins; the remaining lots are crushed and pressed, and have a dark red color. Winemakers then blend the juice together, giving the wine its unique and pretty color. To enhance the White Merlots fresh cherry flavors and vivid aromas, the wine is cold-fermented at 60F in stainless steel tanks.
