A Speyside single malt from Craigellachie, aged 16 years and bottled at 54.4% ABV. Finished in a second fill bourbon barrel, with an outturn of 125 bottles.

Built in 1890 and designed by Charles Doig, Craigellachie was constructed with the intent of producing a lighter, fruitier character. One early descriptor even references pineapple as a desirable aroma.

Historically it served as a core malt in Mackies Old Smuggler and Old Gaelic blends, and later fell under DCL through White Horse. Following a 1998 industry merger, the Monopolies Board required divestments, and Craigellachie was acquired by Bacardi, which still owns it.

Tasting notesNoseOrchard fruits such as apples and pears, with a more concentrated sweetness like syrup from tinned fruit.PalateNeat: baked apple turnover, with slightly burnt crystallised sugar on the crust and a prevailing syrup sweetness. With water: more cereal notes develop, like walking through a barley and fruit farm, with images of icing covered Victoria sponge. Reduced: juicy fruits and sweetness intensify, with peaches joining the mix.
