Known in her lifetime as “the Grande Dame of Champagne”, Madame Clicquot was a woman ahead of her time. When her husband died in 1805, she took over the reins at just 27 years of age, at a time when women had no place in the world of business. She was a demanding creator, tirelessly searching for only one quality, the finest. Her tenacity and instinct led her to free herself from her charted destiny. A free and ambitious woman, she dared to say, “I wish my brand to rank first in New York like in Saint Petersburg”. Today, her signature is recognized the world over as the seal of Veuve Clicquot.

This is the story of a Grande Dame, the story of a Grand Champagne.

Celebrating the new vintage, the iconic Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusama, sends a cheerful message to the whole world by imagining a unique, joyful and colorful creation specifically made for Veuve Clicquot. It is with its iconic symbols, that Yayoi Kusama adorns La Grande Dame 2012 case and bottle. The opulent flower symbolizes vital energy, love and celebration of life. The polka dots, Yayoi Kusama’s signature patterns are reworked like champagne bubbles to embody La Grande Dame 2012.

Tasting Notes: Initial notes of white owers on the nose, such as jasmine, honeysuckle and vine owers can be felt and then opens with fruitier nuances of apple, pear and peach. A few notes of fresh almond and frangipane complete the bouquet. In the mouth, the cuve reveals more complex aromas: dried apricot, hazelnuts, honey and sugar candy. Silky textures give the wine its personality, elegance and character. The aging has imparted particular depth and power to the wine.
